ACTS churches seek to implement the 1st Century Church model. There is such a mix of traditions, opinions & error in the church. God might just lead you to create a fellowship from scratch.
Here is a recent communication we’ve had with someone who has applied to ACTS. This individual has made themselves available, and true to God’s nature He is starting with that submitted leader before those they are reaching.
...I will be going door to door in search of people for a new gathering. I am excited to see what the Lord will do as I move forward in the Holy Spirit’s ministry.
I have been receiving good response from fellow Christians that are in evangelical churches in regards to how I hope to build the gathering and the open mic concept I learned from you. It seems there is a real desire for the congregation to take part in ministry on Sundays, not just listen to the “professionals” talk at us. This is confirming to my wife and me that we are on the right track!
I feel I am on the right track with this as I started walking the streets of the neighborhood where I hope to minister, praying out loud for the Holy Spirit to bring revival to this neighborhood. As I approached the center of the neighborhood, the Holy Spirit overcame me, and I just started weeping, uncontrollably. That happens to me when the Holy Spirit is moving, and I can’t say why. But I feel the Holy Spirit is showing me I am doing what He wants right now.
Have you considered going door to door, two-by-two? Don’t ask them to join your church, but execute Luke 10. Look at the needs that are in the home… 9 out of 10 times someone is sick or they care about someone who they know is sick.
"And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you." - Luke 10:5-9
Notice how Jesus instructed these 70 elders on their ‘short term missions trip’ to look for a peaceful person, spend time with them if they are peaceable, and be prepared to help them understand the kingdom of God through the gifts of healing & discernment.
If they want to go to your church because of your witness, let it be because the Holy Spirit is drawing them. It is the Lord that adds to the Church, not you by yourself armed with the spiritual roots of disease. Don’t ask them to join anything. Just serve your neighborhood through power evangelism. The work of an evangelist is not limited to solely unbelievers. There are unbelieving Christians that don’t know what being a believer is all about. They could be a sheep that’s ‘over the cliff’. Strategically going door to door may be the way you develop the most faithful members of your fellowship through your model & the Spirit’s leading.
